I’ve been a big fan of Kahlil Gibran for most of my life. This quote is a favorite because it reminds me of how precious our time is and how necessary it is to treasure every single moment. With that in mind, Thom and I are enjoying our summer so far. How about you?
Kathy -this reminds me of the Lotto sign I pass often on the expressway here. The sign shows the amount of money currently in the lotto pot and says, “How will you spend all that time?” Being self-employed and often charging for services by the hour, I find myself often asking, “How many hours will I need to work to enjoy that and is it worth it?” A bit of a twist on your quote – but I think the idea holds true that time is precious. I’ve been out of the blog-sphere for a bit (which I’ll blog about soon) but creeping back in slowly with checking posts this morning — and being reminded why I follow so many great bloggers in the first place!
Hi Janet! I’ve missed your words of wisdom and wondered what you’ve been up to! I look forward to reading about it soon. 🙂 . And thanks for offering that slightly different perspective on this idea. Whatever helps us to remember the value of our precious time, the better! ~Kath
Hi Kathy, Kahlil Gibran is recently showing up in my radar again. His words and wisdom stand the test of ‘time.’ “Time” was a word of the year for me a few years ago. It is even more relevant and precious now as I know the days ahead are less than the days before.
Summer has had a few unexpected events, especially and unfortunately with the passing of my husband’s sister. I think you are aware we are heading back to Toronto for a Celebration of Life in July. We will be back on the Island a few days before our meet up. A group Blind Date.?Should be fun and interesting. Nice that you and Thom are enjoying your summer:) ?
Hi Erica! I’m not surprised that Gibran showed up for you lately. Isn’t that what happens with people/bloggers/friends who are on a similar wave length. And so sorry about your sister-in-law. Prepared or not, they passing of anyone close to us is a sharp reminder to make the most of EVERY SINGLE DAY. May the experience be a good one. And YES to our upcoming blind date 🙂 . ~Kathy
This is such a wonderful concept for me to remember! Since retirement, I found that I lost track of the value of my days until they were slipping by so fast I no longer reveled in the special moments. The calendar pages still peal off in rapid shuffles, but I grab on and dig in so I can make note of the laughter with friends, the sizzle of a hamburger and the cloudy sky of a summer day when blue is muted to grey and indigo and violet! Thank you for the reminder!!
Hi Eileen! Thank you for pointing out that it isn’t always “work” or a job that can steal away our days if we aren’t paying attention. And thank you for sharing just a few of the tiny pleasures that remind you of how good your life is. ~Kathy
Love it! None of us are getting out of here alive thus our time is finite. Choose what you do with it wisely!
Thanks Kathy. Enjoy your summer,
Deb
Hi Deb! I saw on your blog post today that YOU are choosing to spend your days well. Loved your photos of Newfoundland. ~Kathy
This is so perfect, Kathy! Studies show that most people prefer days off to working overtime for more money. Glad you are enjoying your summer now that it is officially here!
Hi Terri! Yes, happy summer to you too. I hope you’re finding ways to stay happy even though you are off your feet for a while. Maybe just sitting and reading in nature? That or have Hans row you about in the water!!! ~Kathy
Great quote! Well… summer just started today, with rain for us. After three days of driving, we find ourselves on the border of Iowa and Illinois. Looking forward to spending the weekend with friends in Chicago. Hopefully, the weather improves. Lives in campers (with dogs) require dry weather. 🙂
Hi Liesbet! I KNOW you KNOW the answer to this question because you live it. And I hope the weather does improve for you and your new family member. I’m sure you are adjusting to having a new occupant in your vehicle but also enjoying her companionship! ~Kathy
Liesbet – I hope you enjoyed a beautiful Saturday here in the lovely city of Chicago. Today is a bit off/on with the sunshine but the temp feels good. Next time you’re in the area maybe we can meet IRL. Enjoy and safe travels.
Excellent quote! Good to see that you are making good on your desire to stress less and relax more (although I always enjoy reading your longer posts).
Hi Janis! YES! I am having a great summer so far. And you? Thom and I are definitely looking forward to meeting up with you and your DH next month as well. ~Kathy
Great quote! It’s possible to get more money once it’s lost, but it’s not possible to get more time once it’s gone. Time is that one thing we can’t get more of, so it should be valued accordingly.
Hi Mike! So important to remember this, right? Let’s never forget to value our time! ~Kathy
A great quote for sure! I too am having some summer fun.
Hi Haralee! Glad you like it AND that you are enjoying your summer too. I look forward to seeing you in a few more weeks! I will email so we can make a plan. ~Kathy
